Wallace creek Cultural Complex

Wallace Creek, CA

11   /   06   /   2023

This project is a series of dome spaces that all serve different functions. The largest dome is the museum/ cultural center, the framed dome is the community center, the dome in the lower right is the café, and the last dome are the restrooms.

The project had a cultural focus on the Chumash, who at one point resided on the land the project was built, thus inspiring the dome form. The museum uses its large arcing window to maintain a relationship with the sky. The arc of the window follows the path that the sun would take on the winter solstice-- one of the most important days in Chumash culture. This window is a central feauture of the space and allows for direct sunlight during the winter when additional heat is needed. The community center is designed to allow direct connection with the sky. Its surrounded by  a series of operable panels, that when opened allow you a complete view of the night sky. During the day, the panels are closed to allow protection from the sun.

*Due to a stolen backpack, I ended up losing most of my files from this project. If you wish to see diagrams of this project, please to the winter 2022 portfolio, located under "Archive."
